This program is an educational support program aimed at assisting children, learners and trainees with Albinism to access education. This is one of the best ways to empower them, going into the future, since ‘education is the great equalizer’ (Horace Mann).
Majority of Person with Albinism come from poor backgrounds with most households being led by single mothers, leading to reduced household income.
The program was therefore incepted to mainly improve the education standards of learners with Albinism who are from economically unstable backgrounds, by:
- Paying or subsidizing their school fees,
- Providing auxiliary assistance like optical devices such as spectacles and reading devices,
- Sensitizing the school community including teachers on how to work best with them.
- Mentorship programs and role modeling in order to inspire learners to be high achievers in life.
The organization identifies them after receiving requests through applications. It then gives a set amount of school fees on the basis of need and the level of education being pursued. The official optimal amounts given to each student depends on their level of education namely: kindergarten, primary, secondary and tertiary; available resources in this kitty and demand for support, which is always very high.
A needy student is also expected to declare whether they are getting any other similar support in order to ensure that as many deserving cases are reached, to avoid double dipping tendencies and cartel-like behavior amongst the beneficiaries. They must also be spread across the forty-seven (47) counties of the Republic of Kenya and must ensure gender parity as well as diversity on Albinism.
